Released material

Story first published in
the USA in 1989 (Epic) in the form of a one-shot 48-pages comic book format (softcover), with a good thick paper but not glossy. It comes with a more classic colouring (Mark Chiarelleo) and inking (Mark Nelson and Kevin O’Neill for 4 pages).

In 1990, the UK publisher Apocalypse Limited retrieves the rights for Marshal Law by means of a very interesting financial offer. This story was then reissued (removing the pre-title "Crime & Punishment") a year before the launch of the weekly magazine Toxic! in March 1991, where Marshal Law would be the leading story. This second edition has been printed in magazine format ("Marshal Law # 2", which is probably also "Apocalypse present # 2") but on a lower quality papers (newsprint, so rapid yellowing). The US cover, second, penultimate and back cover have not been included. There are new cover, second front and back cover  (an ad for the launch of Toxic!).

In Spain, the story was published quite exactly as the US edition by Comics Forum in its Prestige Collection (#35, "Crimen Y Castigo").

It lacks only the second and third of cover illustrations, but on the other hand, it comes with quite better paper quality (glossy thick paper). The translation is credited to Lorenzo Diaz.

Here is the Italian edition published by Play Press as "Crimine e punizione" (1991, as a supplement to Play Saga #11, many thanks to Paolo Gugliuzza for pointing out the existence of this title). This edition is exactly the same as the US one shot (non glossy paper, comics format, identical back and inside iluustrations).

Paperback "Fear Asylum", Titan Books (June 2003): in this book, the story is reprinted in comic format, but the quality of paper (glossy) is superior to the 2 other editions. With the exception of the second of cover (showing the Marshal holding a bomb in an insecticide "Spider-Man", see above), all the material of the first publication of 1989 was used (with even a new quote from Marshall "Super groups , the bland leading the bland! "). The cover of the magazine version of 1990 is also included. This paperback also presents the back cover of the limited edition release from Graphitti Designs (featuring all the villains of "Fear and Loathing" and "Takes Manhattan", see above).
